Creating an identity for a technology company that champions green emerging technologies is no small feat. Enter Smart Grid Philippines Inc. They’re at the forefront of advancing smart grids, those digital electricity networks that manage power demands with finesse, all while promoting green energy. This project wasn’t just about designing a logo; it was about symbolizing a technological revolution rooted in sustainability.
The Glyph, The Eye, & The Leaf
Green energy kept echoing in my mind as I embarked on this project. The challenge was to visually convey a green technology ethos. Nature’s abundance pointed me towards the humble leaf. Its shape, color, and ecological symbolism made it the perfect starting point.
In this case, designing a brand is more than creating visuals; it's about telling a story that blends innovation, culture, & sustainability into a cohesive identity.
Staring at a leaf one day, I noticed its resemblance to an eye. This wasn’t just a botanical revelation—it was a metaphorical eureka moment. The eye represented foresight and intelligence, qualities intrinsic to the concept of a smart grid. But something was still missing. The design needed a touch of local flavor to truly represent a Filipino technological marvel.

Revolution
Delving into research, I stumbled upon a gem in the ancient Filipino script, Alibata. The glyph for "Pa" resembled a bisected leaf, and coincidentally, "Grid" translates to "Parilya" in Filipino. This connection was the design’s missing link. By merging the leaf-eye metaphor with the Alibata "Pa," I created a symbol that resonated with both green technology and Filipino heritage. This unique blend underscored the company’s identity as a pioneer of the Philippine Green Technological Revolution.
A project of this magnitude demanded precision. The golden ratio, known for its aesthetically pleasing proportions, became my guiding principle. The leaf's fine lines and curves were crafted using parabolic curves adhering to these proportions, bringing the design to life.
The logo was just the beginning. I had the chance to develop graphic assets illustrating communities and technology. These assets, drawn in line art, were versatile enough for both colored and monochromatic applications. It was crucial that the illustrations and the logo shared a cohesive style.
The heavy line art of the logo called for a typeface that could complement it without overwhelming it. Blogger Sans fit the bill perfectly. It balanced seriousness with a touch of playfulness, aligning seamlessly with the overall aesthetic.
I’m thrilled with how this project turned out. Every element of the company name—Smart Grid Philippines—is represented thoughtfully in the design. This project reaffirmed the essence of what it means to be a designer: solving problems and creating meaningful symbols that encapsulate purpose and reason.
